Curriculum Intent

To experience Business in the real world, we aim to inspire learners with understanding the business decision making process as we engage with the effect businesses have on all stakeholder groups.

Knowledge

Studying Business will allow every child to develop their understanding of different business contexts, ranging from small enterprises to large multinationals and businesses operating in local, national and global contexts. Students will develop an awareness of how these contexts impact on business behaviour. Every learner will learn and extend their knowledge of the purpose of business activity, the role of business enterprise and entrepreneurship, and the dynamic nature of business. This knowledge will allow learners to link the impact that business in the real world has on its stakeholders.

Purpose

“Investing in the business of me” – Every individual should see themselves as part of the economy therefore need to be geared up to make and understand the decisions that affect all. This will allow them to contribute to the economy and society as employees, employers and consumers. The learners will explore their position in the economy and the business world, investigating a range of employment opportunities in order to be proactive members in the world of work.

Proactivity

Curiosity – Students to question how the real world of business will affect them and their future. To have an enterprising approach to problem solving and critical thinking.

Commitment – A learning approach to develop ways of thinking include in lessons that involve problem solving, are business centred, promote independent thinking and allow student ownership. Students must also be intrinsically motivated and have a proactive, creative mind set.

Courage – Think intelligently and critically about the purpose and impact of business on the world and themselves as stakeholders. This should allow learners to see themselves as potential entrepreneurs, using the skills learnt to solve problems in a business context. Students will be able to communicate effectively – business etiquette – in regards to presentation of themselves and presentation of their work.
