Core Physical Education Intent

Knowledge

In Physical Education our ambition is to provide all students with the opportunity to acquire and apply knowledge of sport specific skills, rules, safety procedures and tactical strategies. Through the core PE curriculum there will be opportunities for students to learn about the theory of anatomy and how the body physiologically adapts to facilitate an active and healthy lifestyle.

Purpose

The PE curriculum allows students to experience a broad array of physical activities, developing both sport specific skill and basic fundamental movements. Our rich extra-curricular programme runs parallel to core PE lessons to provide students with the opportunity to develop excellence in the sports of their choice. In addition, we want all students to develop an appreciation for leading a healthy lifestyle and be equipped with the skills to be able to do this.

Proactivity

Curiosity- We aim to promote a love of learning for all our students in PE. Our curriculum will provide students with a broad range of opportunities to discover the areas of physical activity they enjoy and reflect upon their strengths.

Commitment- In PE, students are increasingly challenged to adapt to different environments, both as an individual and as part of a team. We want all students to demonstrate determination and a high work ethic to be able to perform to the best of their ability and contribute greatly to their team.

Courage- As students move through the year groups, they will be challenged to learn increasingly complex skills and apply these to a competitive environment. Students will also be required to step outside of their comfort zone to fulfil leadership roles such as an official, team captain or coach. In PE, we want students to approach such challenges with resilience and positivity.
