Why study BTEC Applied Psychology?

Psychology is the science of the mind. Psychologists study human behaviour and use this as a clue to the workings of the mind.

What will I be learning about?

As a BTEC qualification, the course

focuses on the fundamentals of the subject and two specialist areas of study that link to higher education psychology courses and occupations within the applied psychology sector.

The fundamental topics are:

  • Application of psychology approaches
  • Research methods

In addition to this we will also focus on the following specialist areas:

  • Health psychology
  • Criminal and forensic psychology

How will I be assessed?

A strength of BTEC qualifications is that there are coursework units as well as examination units.

This means you will only sit two examinations instead of three like you would with an A-level.

In addition to this you are also allowed to re-sit the exams and there is also an opportunity to resubmit your coursework units too.

Where will this lead?

Psychology is a good choice for a range of students because most professional careers, including medicine, nursing, policing, legal practice, social services, sports, business and education require students to have some knowledge of psychology.

This means the qualification can lead you on to a range of professions within these sectors.

What are the entry requirements?

Five grade 9-4 at GCSE level or equivalent, including English, maths and science.

It is beneficial to have also have at least one grade 5 from these core subjects.
