Curriculum Intent

To have the confidence to explore and question the world around us, recognising the great differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes and environments across the world.

Knowledge

Geography is about finding patterns in the complexity of natural and human places, and so our curriculum is underpinned by our eight themes of Geography – systems, sustainability, interdependence, responsibility, globalisation, risk, development and inequality. If students can apply these themes in different contexts and consider the links between them that exist outside of the classroom, then they will have the deep and secure understanding they need to form and share their own opinions, conclusions and arguments about the best way to care for the planet.

Purpose

Geography is our students’ inheritance and it is therefore vital that we create global citizens that are aware of and understand the wider world – and their role in it. The local context of our students does not necessarily open their eyes to the diversity, complexity and beauty of the world they live in, and it is therefore our intent to make them not only understand it but appreciate and take responsibility for it too.

Proactivity

Curiosity – Students exhibit curiosity in Geography by having the confidence to question the world around them and discovering connections between ideas that they may never have considered.

Commitment – We encourage commitment by taking learning outside of the Geography classroom, whether that be during fieldwork, in other subjects or when applying it to their lives outside of school.

Courage – Our students will be courageous when forming and sharing their own opinions, conclusions and arguments about the best way to care for the planet
