Curriculum Intent
To develop performance, composition and listening skills to produce the all rounded musician
Knowledge
Our students will explore a range of different cultures and genres, from the Western classical art tradition to world and contemporary music. They will learn how to read pitch and duration, develop an understanding of the key musical elements and develop skills to critically analyse, perform and compose music.
Purpose
Music embodies creativity and innovation. Students are required to think analytically about different pieces of music, responding to their intent and purpose, and consider how sound can be accurately interpreted. Students will develop key life skills, such as teamwork and communication through rehearsing and performing in ensembles.
Proactivity
Curiosity – Pupils discover the sounds and musical features of a wide range of musical genres, exploring the history and culture behind their origins.
Commitment – Strengthening pupils’ confidence, perseverance and self-discipline through regular disciplined practice.
Courage – Students will feel empowered to perform in front of their teachers and peers using instruments and voice. They will develop the confidence to offer feedback and support to their peers as part of a respectful and encouraging audience.
