Curriculum Intent

To develop my confidence, resilience, and empathy through a wide range of cultural and historical topics applying fundamental drama skills.

Knowledge

Children will begin by understanding how to use performance skills of body language, gesture, voice and facial expression to create characters. They will explore how to use space, levels and proxemics to show relationships. Children will explore wider issues and stories through physical theatre, story-telling, script work and devising.

Purpose

Through drama pupils gain an abundance of life skills that will equip them for the world beyond school. Through exploring personal, cultural and social values they will understand how to be confident, collaborative and empathetic individuals while analysing their own and others’ points of view.

Proactivity

Curiosity – Pupils explore the features of a variety of different performance styles. They will question ideas about how we view the world through plays and themes.

Commitment – Building confidence and team work are vital to drama and teaching our students to persevere and be resilient through regular opportunities to perform enables them to gain valuable experience in commitment both to themselves and others.

Courage – Students will gain the confidence in a safe and trusting environment to perform in front of their peers and teachers. They will develop the confidence to offer feedback and support to their peers as part of a respectful and encouraging audience.
