There are four elements to complete at Bronze level: volunteering by helping the community or environment, learning a new skill or improving on an existing skill, becoming fitter by completing a physical activity and planning, training for and completing an expedition. Any young person can start their DofE in year 9 – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an award is about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.

Students have received some experience of our Adventurers programme during their SAS sessions in either year 7 or 8, giving them some experience of first aid, cooking on a Trangia, and map reading. The DofE award is a great way for them to progress onto an internationally recognised award that will build their resilience, problem solving and give them the opportunity to create great memories with their friends. They will work together in teams of up to 6 on their communication and team working and improve their organisation skills and confidence as they push themselves out of their comfort zones and try new things.

Due to the current pandemic, DofE have adjusted the requirements to complete the award. Students should not be hindered by lock down restrictions and with many alternative options, the DofE award will still be able to be completed within year 9. You can find out more here: https://www.dofe.org/dofewithadifference

Students will have weekly meetings with their DofE group leader and add evidence of their tasks by uploading photos or videos from their devices at home. Finally, there will be training sessions and two expeditions, a practice one and an assessed one in the Worcestershire countryside.

Students will need to attend each of these days to be able to complete the award.

There will be 2 additional payments of £107.50 for Bronze. If there are any issues with making payments, then please let Lindsey Slater know at lslater@worcs.tgacademy.org.uk so that we can accommodate.

Students have been emailed a powerpoint about the DofE Award, but should you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact me at the following email address: vodonnell@worcs.tgacademy.org.uk or you can visit DofE for more details: https://www.dofe.org/do/
