Skills Action Service
Curriculum Intent
Develop skills for life. Demonstrate these skills. Support the academy, local, national and international communities.
Knowledge
The Skills Action Service Curriculum takes place fortnightly on a Friday afternoon for a double lesson. SAS is an integral part of a student’s personal development journey in years 7 and 8.
Students are given the opportunity to opt for five different SAS options and complete a sixth compulsory option in basic first aid.
Purpose
At the heart of SAS lies the ethos of service. Students learn, develop and demonstrate skills which will enable them to support, inform and help our academy community and local, national and international communities.
Proactivity
Curiosity
Students are given opportunities to think about why they are developing skills in their chosen option. They are encouraged to consider how they might show service as part of their option and how it might look.
Commitment
SAS Options are all linked to elements of the academy W.I.S.E.R framework of Be Wise/ Be Inclusive / Be Safe / Be Engaged and Be Ready. Students are encouraged to support any service their option might take part in and to see the relevance to their actions in relation to their personal development.
Courage
Students are given support to demonstrate their successes to their peers, other staff, students in other schools and the local and wider community.
